Job description


To work as part of the Technical Service Team providing an efficient, effective and safe Aseptic Service to patients and CHS staff, in accordance with departmental and Trust standards and procedures. To assist in the provision and development of the aseptic service to CHS.

Pharmacy Assistant - Technical services (Band 2)

To maintain competence to dispense aseptically prepared products, in accordance with professional standards and good dispensing practices define by the Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services, Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

To aseptically prepare and supply, under the supervision of a Pharmacist, intravenous injections including cytotoxics and other aseptically dispensed items in unit dose form in accordance with SOPs.

To operate and maintain safe systems of working practises within the cytotoxic and aseptic dispensing unit in order to maintain agreed standards and to comply with the COSHH regulations (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

To monitor the environment and equipment within the department to determine that they conform to agreed standards, and carry out all necessary validations and accreditations so that the quality of the products is assured.

To assist with the cleaning and maintenance of the clean rooms and equipment to maintain a clean working environment. Ensure all excursions are reported.

To be responsible for the ordering and stock control systems for both non-stock and stock consumables used within Aseptic Unit to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.

To ensure all drug transactions are entered accurately onto the Pharmacy stock control programme to minimise stock discrepancies and drug shortage situations.
