As a Mechanical Enginering Apprentice, you will gain experience of:
Restoring components undertaking repair:
Apprentices will gain knowledge of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles, leadership skills, quality control, health and safety training, and exposure to non-operational functions (Planning, Finance, Commercial) at our world- class manufacturing facilities in St Helens.
Additional training such as health and safety, de-fib, first aid, vehicles (including forklift trucks), technical knowledge and leadership skills will all be provided by the business.

The apprenticeship will provide training in mechanical skills for the maintenance and fault finding of manufacturing equipment within the glass industry, working with our teams of highly skilled engineers to provide mechanical engineering support to our multi-million pound plant operations.
Apprentices will gain knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, leadership skills, quality control, health and safety training, and exposure to non-operational functions (Planning, Finance, Commercial) at our world- class manufacturing facilities in St Helens.
Additional Training such as Health and Safety, De-fib, First Aid, and Vehicles (including forklift trucks) will all be provided by the business.
During year 1 you will attend Waterside (WA9 1TW) full time from Monday to Friday from 8:45 am. to 4:30 p.m.
During year 2, 3 and 4, you will attend Pilkington’s two manufacturing sites at Cowley Hill and Greengate in St Helens (WA9 5DZ). You will work at 37.5 hour week from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of spending some time on shifts during your final year.
You will be qualified on a Level 3 City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering Qualification and a Level 3 Science Industry Maintenance Technician standard with the possibility of progression to HNC Level 4 Qualification.
We endeavour to offer full time, permanent roles to qualified Engineering Technicians at the end of the period of apprenticeship training.
We are a global business with opportunities for talented individuals both in the UK and abroad; most of our former apprentices go on to become Team Leaders, with many subsequently moving into engineering management roles both at our Upstream manufacturing sites and at our European Technical Centre in Lathom, nr Ormskirk.
Funding for degrees is available, subject to business requirements, throughout your career.
