To work alongside the Outreach Programme Coordinator and staff team to develop engagements with vulnerable young people across Mid and East Antrim (MEA) through detached on street youth work, schools drop-in and 1-2-1 support. .
Responsibilities
- Support the social and emotional development of young people aged 11-25.
- Recruit and engage young people across MEA in outreach, schools and 1-2-1 work.
- Establish contact with, listen to, befriend, advise and advocate for young people.
- Keep young people safe and provide information and support.
- Build appropriate relationships with young people so that they can develop self-confidence and coping skills for everyday life.
- Work flexibly as part of a team to deliver project work and activities during outreach in consultation with young people.
- Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
- Implement the YMCA's Child Protection policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
- Undertake compulsory induction training and participate in appropriate training to develop new skills (e.g. accredited training in youth work/sports coaching/first aid).
- Assist with administrative duties within the outreach programme.

Essential Skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with young people.
- Planning and organisational skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Resilience and ability to deal with the pressures of working with young people.
- Commitment to working within an equal opportunity framework.
- Ability to work in agreement with the aims and objectives of Carrickfergus YMCA.
Desirable Skills
- Previous paid or voluntary experience of working with children or young people would be desirable but is not essential.
- This post will involve 'regulated activity' under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 therefore the post holder will be subject to an ACCESS NI check.

Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
Wage: 16/17yrs £5.28, 18/20yrs £7.49, 21/22yrs £10.18, 23/24yrs £10.42 per hour
