Special Education Teacher
Job Overview: A Special Education Teacher, often referred to as a SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teacher, is dedicated to working with students who have diverse learning requirements or disabilities. This crucial role involves providing customized instruction and support to help students with special educational needs achieve their maximum potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
- Develop and implement individualized education plans tailored to students' unique learning goals, accommodations, and required support services.
Adaptive Instruction:
- Modify teaching strategies, materials, and curriculum to cater to the specific needs and abilities of each student, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Regularly assess students' abilities and progress, adjusting instructional methods and goals as needed. Collaborate with professionals like speech therapists, occupational therapists, and counselors.
Behavior Management:
- Implement behavior management techniques and strategies to support students in developing appropriate behaviors and social skills.
Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, their families, and support staff, providing updates on progress and collaborating on the best ways to support the student's needs.
Resource Selection:
- Select appropriate teaching materials, assistive technologies, and resources to facilitate the learning process for students with special needs.
Inclusion:
- Promote the inclusion of students with special needs in regular classroom settings, fostering an inclusive educational environment.
Advocacy:
- Act as an advocate for students with special needs, ensuring they receive the necessary accommodations, support services, and opportunities for their educational and personal development.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about the latest research, teaching techniques, and assistive technologies related to special education through ongoing professional development.
Crisis Intervention:
- Be prepared to respond to crisis situations or medical emergencies that may arise among students with special needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (Master's degree is often preferred).
- Teaching certification in Special Education.
- Strong understanding of various disabilities, learning disorders, and related educational strategies.
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, support staff, and parents.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing special education, such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in the UK.
Working Conditions:
Special Education Teachers work in a diverse range of educational settings, including public and private schools, special education centers, and inclusive classrooms. They may work with students across various age groups, from preschool through high school and beyond, depending on the specific needs of the students and the educational institution

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
