Technical Support Engineer (075jc) – Gloucester – up to £44k + Benefits
My client is looking to recruit an additional Technical Support Engineer that will be fundamental to my client’s operational capability, accordingly for the right individual, a defined career path is available with future options available. This will be a full-time office-based role.

Who are they looking for?
The company markets a wide range of PDH, SDH, Ethernet/IP, MPLS, Optical specialised, DWDM, Cellular and Wireless, LTE based networking equipment and Syncronisation. They provide and manage a variety of SNMP based network management systems that run on Linux, Solaris and Windows servers. You must have a basic understanding of these technologies with specialist knowledge in at least one of the Key Technical Skills.
They are looking for a positive, hardworking candidate who is willing to learn and keep on top of modern communication technologies as the telecommunication industry evolves. My client has a reputation for integrity and strong technical capability, and you will need to be a team player who can contribute ideas and apply good fault resolution methodology in an open environment as well as being capable of applying this knowledge both on-site with customers and in-house.
Ideally, you should be educated to HNC level or above in a telecommunications field and be eligible for UKSC & NPPV3 clearances with the availability to go into the field when required.
They provide 24/7 support to their customers so the ability to participate in an out of hours rota is essential. This will take the form phone support, Email support and the occasional customer site visit.
This is not an IT role or suitable for fibre pullers/splicers.
Therefore, you will need the following Technical, Supporting skills as well as and Additional attributes:
• Specialist knowledge in Optical Networks and associated hardware.
• Familiar with a range of test equipment such as optical power meters & light sources, BERT’s, cellular scanners and multi-meters.
• Familiar with Cellular RTE, Routing & Switching protocols and network synchronisation.
• Able to conduct testing and produce full comprehensive test documentation / reports.
• Experienced in fault finding methodology.
• The ability to manage fault tickets process from beginning to end.
• Ability to administer and run turnkey projects.
• Experience with remote network management platforms.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written, internally and externally.
• Comfortable engaging with both customers and suppliers on technical and project related matters.
• Ability to work as part of team or autonomously using their own initiative.
• The ability to train other members of the team and customers.
• Ability to transfer existing skills to the company environment, technically, process-wise and by experience.
• Ability to work under pressure and to given deadlines.
• Available to carry out field activities as when the business requires, to include GPS & cabinet surveys, Installation of telecoms equipment, commissioning and fault rectification.
• Willingness to learn.
• Hold or previously held any telecommunications-related courses/qualifications with regards to theory, installations, testing, commissioning, power & H&S.
The company is offering an attractive salary for the right person, this will be very dependent on previous experience and their levels of knowledge, including 20 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
