At the Global Supply Chain (GSC) Ware site, we have a heritage in making innovative medicines for diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), HIV and cancer. An exciting place to work, Ware is the new product introduction site (NPI) for respiratory and oral solid dose medicines and has supported the launch of over 15 new innovative medicines since 2017.
We are seeking an Engineering Capital Programme Manager to oversee a diverse portfolio of projects for our site, which is continuing to see substantial investment. This role will be critical to ensuring safe and successful delivery of our projects.
This role will be aligned to a portfolio of projects and oversee the full lifecycle of delivery from facility investment planning and project inception through to execution and handover. Projects within this portfolio can vary from critical site infrastructure, utilities, GxP manufacturing equipment and cutting-edge automation through to site office and welfare facilities, aligned to the site aims and capital plans.
Key Responsibilities include:
Manage a Capital Portfolio of circa 40 projects (approx. £10m per annum) for the Value Stream's business strategy. Responsible for delivery of projects within cost and schedule targets.
Manage a team consisting of GSK staff and contractors to deliver the successful outcome of project scopes.
Manage resource requirements for your portfolio of projects.
Act as a role model for capital project delivery (following Project Management Framework - PMF), satisfying all elements of the Projects Controls Dashboard (programme, cost, risk and reporting) and GSK Finance Manual.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with the clients/customers and wider site functions, acting as a central point of contact for partners.
Able to foresee potential risks and issues, establish a process, facilitate discussion, and manage escalations.
Work with the site Engineering Technical Authorities to set site strategy and provide input to projects.
Provide co-ordination to balance site priorities, resources and potential clashes.
Work with GSK preferred suppliers for Capital Delivery across Engineering, Procurement & Project Controls and Construction Management (EPCm) as well as incumbent trade contractors.
Ensure stage gate, governance papers and Project Investment Proposal (PIP) submissions align to the site Capital Plan - review and provide feedback on charters, project plans and PIPs prior to submission to ensure Front End Engineering Design (FEED) criteria have been met along with defining a robust business case for investment.
Manage all EHS, Quality and Finance aspects of the team aligned to the Value Stream area to ensure a consistent green dashboard.
Drive risk management strategies to identify and mitigate potential project risks.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering capital programme.
Fixed Term Contact (FTC) – This Fixed Term Contract (FTC) is expected to last circa 12 months in duration.
About You:
This role would suit a motivated person who has strong experience of working in a project portfolio delivery environment. You will be a qualified engineer to degree-level or via professional registration, with strong people-management skills, budget planning, project controls, contract management and ideally expertise within the pharmaceutical industry. You will drive common thinking and be focused on providing solutions.
It is also important to demonstrate strong partnering skills (both internal customers and external suppliers and contractors). You will have strong knowledge and understanding of scientific/technical design and operation of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
About Ware Manufacturing Site:
Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms.

Basic Qualifications and experience:
Engineering Qualification (minimum of BEng or IEng)
Project management experience
Team management (of direct and matrix-management of teams)
Preferred Qualifications:
PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP, APM or equivalent
NEBOSH National General Certificate or similar
