Job description

As Assistant Director of Music, you will act as the full Head of Department in all academic areas of the Music and Music Technology Department, and as the second in charge of the co-curricular side of the department. This will involve monitoring teaching and learning within the department, leading whole-school academic initiatives, and guiding the professional development of full-time staff. For those with ambition and talent, this role could be a very rewarding opportunity.

We are looking for an experienced teacher with first-class musical credentials who is talented, organised and able to lead by example, who can manage others in terms of academic music methods and results. Previous experience of teaching music at GCSE, A Level and/or IB Music is essential. You will also need prior experience of directing orchestras and/or choirs.

St Edward’s has its own salary scale and benefits; accommodation may be available.

Its activities are wide-ranging, and include numerous large-scale ensembles (including Chapel Choir, Choral Society, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, Brass Band, Big Band) and smaller chamber groups.

The department moved into a new £7 million Music School in 2017, benefitting from state-of-the-art facilities and a 120-seater Recital Room. There are four purpose-built classrooms, including a suite of Macs running Sibelius, Ableton and Logic, and there is a Sixth Form library area for academic work. A studio suite enables students and staff to make professional recordings, linking easily to the Recital Room, Rock Room and vocal recording booth.
