Job description


To provide and supervise specialist psychological assessments and therapies appropriate to a primary care psychological therapy service. To play an active role in supporting the continuing development and use of evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions within the primary care therapy service including providing specialist advice, consultation, support and training to other staff. To play an active role in supervision of therapists, service developments and governance within the service as required.
Clinical
• Assess for specialist psychological intervention/therapies
• Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals and groups within HMR Talking Therapies Step 3 and 3.5.
• Manage a therapy caseload providing evidence-based psychological therapies to service users in line with targets
• Provide clinical supervision to therapists within the service in line with Trust supervision policy and Talking Therapies guidelines
• Maintain accurate clinical records in the management of service users receiving psychological interventions including electronic data entry
• Contribute to risk assessment and risk management of patients

Training and Supervision
• Provide advice, consultation, and training
• Provide clinical placements for trainee professionals, ensuring that they acquire a range of relevant skills
• Lead CPPD and supervision of other team members

Management and Leadership
• Lead on service developments which informed by the knowledge base
• Participate in staff recruitment
• Take part in governance including evaluation of service delivery and identification of areas of improvement and change

Research and Development
• Initiate audit and service evaluation to help improve services
• Disseminate research and clinical audit findings as required, attending conferences to network and understand best practice
• Promote service user/carer involvement to support improvements

Job Summary

To provide and supervise specialist psychological assessments and therapies appropriate to a primary care Talking Therapies service. To play an active role in supporting the continuing development and use of evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions within the primary care therapy service including providing specialist advice, consultation, support and training to other staff. To play an active role in supervision of therapists, service developments and governance within the service as required.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical
• Assess for/Implement a range of psychological interventions for individuals and groups within HMR Talking Therapies across Step 3/3.5
• Manage a therapy caseload providing psychological therapies to service users seen in line with targets agreed with Service Manager
• Provide clinical supervision to therapists within the service in line with Trust supervision policy and Talking Therapies guidelines
• Work collaboratively with service users, families to communicate information concerning the assessment, formulations and recommendations of treatment and management using NICE guidelines.
• Collect, evaluate and report information maintaining accurate clinical records in the management of service users receiving psychological interventions including electronic data entry
• Organise and implement specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation, and training to other professionals
• Contribute to risk assessment and risk management of individual service users and provide general advice to other professionals on other aspects of risk assessment and management.
• Communicate information in a skilled and sensitive manner to service users, carers and relevant professionals concerning treatments

Training and Supervision
• Provide advice, consultation, and training team members for their provision of psychologically based interventions
• Provide clinical placements for trainee professionals, ensuring that they acquire skills for working within a primary care mental heath setting
• Receive regular clinical supervision on an individual basis
• Contribute to CPPD and supervision of other members of the team

Management and Leadership
• Provide leadership as a senior clinician in service developments which are informed by the application of a psychological knowledge base
• Participate as appropriate in staff recruitment within the service
• Take an active part in service improvement including evaluation and identification of areas of improvement and management of change

Research and Development
• Participate in new service developments applying sound practice-based knowledge and theoretical frameworks.
• Initiate and undertake project management, complex audit and service evaluation to help improve services
• Use evidence-based theories and research to support practice in individual clinical work and the practice of other team members
• Disseminate research and clinical audit findings within the organisation, attending conferences to network and understand best practice
• Promote service user/carer involvement to support service improvements
• Act as a resource for other team members providing research advice and supervision if requested

Professional Development
• Be responsible for maintaining own professional development – developing and sustaining knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with professional guidelines
• Take active part in clinical and management supervision
• Attend relevant professional and development meetings and networks to contribute to regional and professional developments, and to gain peer support and advice
