Role Competencies:
Planning Timescales:
• To control and manage the planning and delivery of MKFM’s news, website, app and social media channels.
• Be able to plan, create and deliver written content across all platforms including MKFM websites, apps, social media channels and for the radio.
• Be able to work to produce fast-paced news to short deadlines and on the spot with breaking stories.
• Manage MKFM volunteers, arranging and planning content with and for them while ensuring MKFM’s voice on all content created.
Decision Making:
• Able to decide what is newsworthy and unbiased relevant content to share in MKFM’s tone of voice.
• Ability to assess which social media platform is suitable per story.
• Prioritising news stories and communications in a timely manner.
Impact and Influence:
• Engage with local community on important issues and matters using articles, interviews, pictures, and polls etc.
• Interact with local leaders: in politics, business, community groups.
Skill Level:
• Be able to act calmly and efficiently during a breaking news story.
• Abide by media law and press guidelines on ALL reporting, providing a high level of judgement on content.
• Must be able to demonstrate support to wider businesses outside of main role eg. sales, marketing, on-air, clients.
Communication:
• Be able to act calmly and efficiently during a breaking news story.
• Deliver coverage of press releases, reviews and features to provide opportunities and development within the community and business.
Budget Management:
• Facebook ads and bonus schemes
Lead and Develop:
• Manage and utilise volunteers: to help with coverage of press releases, reviews and features to provide opportunities and development within the community and business.
• Develop targets for MKFM’s social media and online reach.
Operating Parameters:
• Populate and manage: website, social media channels and MKFM app, ensuring all are consistently up to date.

• Be able to organise interviews with key figures across the city, as well as the local community, charities, sports teams, businesses and residents.
• Be able to attend important press conferences with Thames Valley Police, City Council, local government, MPs as well as smaller conferences.
• Keep social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram up to date and monitor interactions with residents, businesses and key figures.

Essential and Desirable Job Criteria:
• Relevant degree e.g. Journalism or Broadcast Journalism (E)
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment under pressure (E)
• Extensive understanding of media law and legal press requirements (E)
• Excellent verbal and written English (E)
• Excellent time management skills (E)
• Good understanding of Milton Keynes including political figures and communities (D)
• Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines with breaking news (E)
• Good understanding of social media platforms (D)
• Ability to edit and create content such as graphics and podcasts for all platforms (D)
