Job description
About our Organisation
The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity which works across the spectrum of human health, the environment and animal welfare. That’s because we cannot tackle these issues in isolation.
We campaign for change, we support farming innovation, we serve healthy food in communities, we support and grow the organic market, and we protect forests. We couldn't do any of this without our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world where it’s needed the most.
About the Opportunity
Do you believe all farm animals should live a good life and that positive animal welfare and minimising antibiotic use should be a priority within our production systems?
Then take on this role at the centre of Soil Association Farming and Land Use Team livestock welfare programmes to ensure they have the validation, evidence, and scientific rigor to achieve the impact required. This role will provide research, data and technical input to the farming and land use livestock health and welfare programmes and play a key role in advancing the positive welfare resource tiers for widespread uptake by farmers and industry. It will support and co-ordinate other livestock health and welfare data programmes, including the analysis and reporting of Soil Association Certification licensees’ welfare outcome data and antibiotics data.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be degree educated and/or have research experience in animal health and welfare or closely related subject. You will have extensive knowledge of livestock health and welfare issues and strong understanding of the challenges for farmers regarding livestock health and welfare. A big focus of this role is reviewing and presenting scientific evidence and data. Therefore we need you to have extensive experience undertaking qualitative and quantitative data analysis along with reviewing and presenting academic and applied research data. Strong writing skills, and experience of writing for a range of audiences will also be a great skill to bring to the role.
