PPM Maintenance Engineer (Electrical)
Location: Penrhyn Road (KT1 2EE) and Kingston Hill (KT2 7LB) Campuses, Kingston-upon-Thames
Salary: £37,000 per annum
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 hours Monday to Friday
Kingston University Services Company (KUSCO) provide a comprehensive repair and maintenance service for systems, plant and equipment on Kingston University sites.
PPM Maintenance Engineer – The Role:
The PPM Maintenance Engineer (Electrical) is required to deliver maintenance, inspection and testing of electrical systems across the estate to ensure the safe, compliant and continuous operation of University systems.
Working within KUSCO’s Technical Services team the post-holder will work on their own initiative, planning repairs workload and coordinating with the Lead Emergency Lighting Tester. They will also work with other maintenance teams, trades, departments or contractors as required.
To meet requirements of the job relating to maintenance access, the post holder will be required to work at least 3 hours per day outside of normal office hours (9am-5:30pm), generally with shifts starting on or before 6am. Shift patterns will be agreed with the line manager.
The Post Holder will undertake:
- Repairing and replacing internal and external lighting and associated components e.g. switches, fittings, control gear, ballast, batteries, wiring.
- emergency light testing, recorded accurately and consistently in site logbooks
- inspections of emergency lighting for conformance with standards (e.g. location, coverage, illumination)
- other electrical or general maintenance repair, remediation and installation tasks as required
- other diagnostic, maintenance and repair tasks as required, across a range of building services and building fabric.
- Completing documentation required, including under Wiring Regulations 18th Edition – minor work certificates, emergency lighting installation certificates.
- ordering of required parts and materials, managing spares stock
- assisting specification of modifications and new installations to electrical/lighting systems or design reviews
- surveys to update asset register records and logbooks
PPM Maintenance Engineer – What we need from you:
You will have a recognised Electrical qualification with experience in a similar trade. On occasion you may be asked to work outside of your Electrical trade however, full training will be given when required.
You will normally be based on one of the main campuses with maintenance bases – Kingston Hill or Penrhyn Road Campus, depending on the location of planned works. However, work required is across all University sites and you therefore must hold a valid driver’s licence.
- Served an apprenticeship in Electrical maintenance, or obtained an equivalent NVQ/C&G level 3
- Preferably certified in emergency lighting maintenance and testing (Fire Industry Association, City & Guilds, or similar). FIA emergency lighting training can be provided
- Preferably IPAF 3a certified; training can be provided
- Minimum three years’ electrical repairs and maintenance experience in large public sector or commercial properties, including lighting installation.
- Working within a customer-focused repairs and maintenance service.
- Working in a team and in a commercial environment.
- Use of a range of tools, equipment and small plant that enable duties of the job to be carried out, including use of ladders and access equipment
- Sound knowledge of works within the field of building maintenance and understanding of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety issues in connection with the Construction Industry, following risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Ability to record detailed and accurate repairs information relating to repairs, inspections and testing.
- Able to use PCs and mobile phones or tablets
- Ability to carry out repair job assessments (inspections), identifying the repair to be completed and materials required to complete the repair.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work in a systematic and organised manner to ensure that repairs are completed within target times
- Demonstrate empathy, patience and understanding of customers’ needs and requirements.
- Ability to provide services to customers with respect to their differing needs and values.
- Able to work as part of a team, across trades and with contractors and suppliers
- Capable of working at heights from scaffold platforms, ladders or mechanical equipment.
- Able to carry out tasks that involve physical strength, stamina and standing, kneeling or crouching.
- Must hold a current valid driving licence
