Job description

Do you have a great understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability in the workplace? Are you a highly developed and organised person who can approach sensitive topics with an empathetic and inclusive manner?

If so, this role as Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (HSES) Coordinator may be ideal.

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability (HSES) Coordinator will provide administrative and project support across the Department. You will be part of a small team that leads the management and delivery of the University’s environmental sustainability agenda and will help coordinate the processes for ensuring the safety of those who may require assistance to escape safely during evacuations, including supporting the production of Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs), and as well as assisting in the management and administration of the University’s accident/incident reporting system.

As a Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability (HSES) Coordinator you can expect to:

Assist in the maintenance of the HSES SharePoint site, including updating the news and events sections
Support the (Environmental) Sustainability Manager on the operation of the University’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and certification to ISO14001
Coordinating the Sustainability Champions network, ensuring Champions are given a full induction into and training necessary to undertake the role and supporting them by answering queries, booking workshops and referring to other departments as needed.
To administrate essential core functions under the University’s Performance Standard for PEEPs, identifying those who may need a PEEP from information provided by other departments, engaging with those individuals to help devise PEEPs and their implementation.
To assist the Health and Safety Advisor in managing the University accident/incident reporting system by monitoring all incident reports, allocating incidents to the relevant mangers and Safety Coordinators within the system and following up on incidents to ensure investigations are undertaken and corrective actions completed.

What we are looking for:

GSCEs in Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above), or equivalent
Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office packages
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to deal with a range of staff and students at all levels
An understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability in the workplace and a willingness to learn further
An interest in Environmental Sustainability, including willingness to train up as an ISO 14001 auditor
Highly developed planning, organisation and prioritising skills with the capability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and to demonstrate strong personal resilience
