Job description
Mechanical Design Engineer / Design Engineer required to join a leading precision engineering manufacturer based in Kent.
The Mechanical Design Engineer / Design Engineer will be completing mechanical design and project requirements to ensure they are achieved and delivered for various defence and aerospace clients globally.
The successful Mechanical Design Engineer / Design Engineer will ideally have a mechanical design background preferably in product development environment. 3D CAD is an essential working knowledge of SolidWorks or AutoCAD would be preferable.
Must be commutable to the site based in Kent.

Responsibilities include:
- As a member of the mechanical design team this role will take responsibility for delivering new product designs under the supervision of the Mechanical Team Leader.
- To create and update 3D CAD models, assemblies and drawings using Solidworks in line with BS8888 and company practice and to generate accurate bills of materials on the company's manufacturing system.
- To take responsibility for delivering allocated projects, making sure they are running to schedule, concessions are assessed and approved/rejected.
- To work closely with the other engineering team members on projects and activities.
- To produce design-related documentation, including, specifications, manuals, assembly instructions, illustrations, costings and test procedures. Also, to check and approve all documentation as required.
- Responsible for ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with the integrated management system.
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement so that we carry out our engineering activities in the most professional and efficient manner possible.
- To assist, as required, in the assembly and testing of prototypes.
- To undertake as required, customer and supplier visits by car. As such a full driving licence is required.
Requirements include:
- Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Project Engineer (design experience), Mechanical Engineer, or similar.
- Extensive experience in detailed product design.
- 3D CAD modelling (preferably Solidworks)
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods: machining, castings and mouldings
- DFM and DFA experience
- Excellent mechanical engineering knowledge – a technical mechanical qualification, apprentice trained, HNC, HND or Degree in mechanical engineering would be advantageous.
- Commutable to site in Kent.
