We’re supporting our client, a market-leading supplier of food processing machinery, services, and consumables based in the Southwest (Devon/Cornwall), who are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Engineer will have at least two years of experience in a maintenance position. Desirable experience of the food industry but not essential as training can be provided to the right candidate.
Position Overview: As a Field Service Engineer, you will provide a complete engineering and technical service for the group range of machinery and equipment at customer premises mainly in the meat, poultry and food related industries.
Responsibilities for Field Service Engineer:
- To provide a complete Engineering and Technical Service for the group range of machinery and equipment at Customer premises mainly in the meat, poultry and food related Industries.
- Install our full range of machinery and equipment, fault find, repair, modify, and carry out complete overhauls. Be able to demonstrate, give training to Operators and Customer Engineers as necessary.
- Report any new Sales opportunities that may develop within our business sectors informing the relevant Sales Manager.
- Dealing with Customer queries, problems, and breakdowns over the telephone. Interact with the Customer Contact team to provide an economic and satisfactory outcome for our customers.
- Must be a self-motivated and reliable be able to work long unsocial hours in a normally cold, damp environment. The hours can be irregular, normally outside of social acceptable hours, with a significant amount of travelling and nights away from home.
- Must have the drive and initiative to see a job through to completion and ready for production next morning.
- Good planning skills, coordinating at all times with the Field Service Manager and Engineering Service Coordinator to plan the most cost-effective routing and management of your workload.
- At all times portray a professional image and responsible attitude towards Customers and Colleagues.
- You may be required to assist in the training of new and existing members of the Engineering/Sales team and you must be able to work with contactors, customers and their Site Engineers, including in the future to oversee the training of customers staff at their premises or the companies’ workshops.
- Property belonging to the company in your care such as machines, equipment, spares, phone, test equipment and tools are to be kept fully serviceable.
- Stock checks will be carried out on engineering stock items on a regular basis.
- Ensure all chargeable time is accounted for and invoiced correctly.
- Ensure all your time allocation is correctly logged in the Engineering system with regards to what the activity is and accurate time recorded for it.
- Ensure you carry out your work in a logical and cost-effective way to maximise profitability in line with company budget expectations.
- All financial paperwork, expenses etc., to be completed on time in line with company expectations.
- All paperwork to be returned promptly to the company offices.
- The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the company and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
- To fully understand and work to the company’s ISO 9002, Health & Safety Policy and Procedures and be aware of the Employee Handbook guidelines, ensuring each procedure is acknowledged and carried out to its requirements.
About You:
- Previous similar Field Service Engineering role/experience.
- A formal qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering and working knowledge of other disciplines.
- Desirably work experience for 2 years in a meat, poultry, fish and food related industry responsible for service of production on machinery ideally on the company range of equipment or similar.
- Literacy and Computer skills (e.g. Sage, Microsoft Office, Outlook).
- Full driving licence.
