Job description

This is an opportunity for a well-qualified, inspirational teacher to join our team of Junior School teachers and play a key role delivering our excellent education offer and contributing to extracurricular activities.

Our Junior School provides an excellent foundation on which our pupils build on their education and personal development as they progress through to our senior school. We offer small class sizes (averaging 15 pupils per class), pupils who are enthusiastic, engaged and excited to learn and colleagues who are supportive.

We are looking for an experienced teacher with a passion for teaching and excellent subject knowledge. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the curriculum and a commitment to continuing professional development, as well as being efficient and organised.

They will be a good communicator who can enthuse and inspire both pupils and colleagues and will have exciting ideas about teaching and the ways in which it can be further developed and encouraged across the whole school. The successful candidate will also be able to plan and deliver engaging lessons, lead trips/visits and will support the vibrant extracurricular life of the school.

Whilst we like our teachers to be flexible to teach across the whole primary phase, we are particularly interested to hear from EYFS and KS1 specialists for this post.

The role is not suitable for an ECT

About the School:

Northampton High School, part of the Girls' Day School Trust (GDST), is one of the oldest girls’ schools in the country, with a tradition of pioneering in girls’ education going back to its foundation in 1878.

Our school is situated in Hardingstone, just outside the town of Northampton, in a leafy site with extensive playing fields and spacious buildings that were purpose built when the school moved from the town centre in 1992. The transport links are excellent, with easy access from the M1 and Northampton rail station a short taxi ride away. The school is a popular choice in the local vicinity and girls also join us from areas further afield, such as Milton Keynes, Warwickshire and Bedfordshire.

Applications should be submitted by Friday 15 March 2024 at midday at the latest.

Interviews will be held during week commencing Monday 18 March 2024.

As part of this process, candidates will be asked to teach a lesson of up to 30 minutes, for which there will be a prior briefing. Candidates will also complete a short, written task, with instructions given on the day of interview.
