Job description

We are currently looking for a new Treasurer Trustee to join the Abbeyfield (Berkhamsted and Hemel Hampstead) Society Board to expand the breadth of its skills, expertise and diversity.

What will you be doing?

Treasurers of Abbeyfield Member Societies are responsible for providing the board with the financial overview taking the lead of the financial management for the society. These duties include overseeing all financial aspects of the charity on behalf of the Board of Trustees and to ensure its short and long-term viability. The treasurer assists the chair in ensuring that the board of trustees fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper financial governance of the charity.

Skills Sought

This role requires someone with a background in finance and who holds a professional accountancy qualification.

Key Duties

  1. Supporting the board in understanding the financial position of the charity and the financial implications of the decisions being made.
  2. Providing oversight of and contribution in the preparation of the annual accounts.
  3. Keeping the board informed about the financial duties and responsibilities.
  4. Ensuring that the organisation pursues its purpose, as defined in its governing document, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
  5. Ensuring that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  6. Ensuring that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects for the benefit of the residents.
  7. Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place
  8. Attending the Board Meetings
What are we looking for?

We are seeking a individual who are passionate about our cause, willing and able to devote the necessary time and effort to the organisation, able to think creatively and speak their mind, and have an understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of the trusteeship. This role requires someone with a background in finance and who holds a professional accountancy qualification.

We’re looking for people to join our Board of Trustees to help take Abbeyfield Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead forward. We are seeking skilled professionals to help us build upon the past 51 years of success whilst being sufficiently flexible and responsive to meet the challenges that we will face in the future.

The sort of person we’re hoping to find has a real interest in supporting older people. They’ll be flexible and resourceful with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and someone used to dealing with a wide variety of people with tact, diplomacy and consideration. A good sense of humor might also help!

We are looking for people with enthusiasm and motivation and a can-do attitude, who are comfortable working as part of a team as well as individually, with breadth of vision and a record of independent judgement, an inquiring mind, and an ability to speak articulately and succinctly.

This is a critical role to the organisation, your financial skills will support the Board of Trustees in shaping the direction of the Society.  The Treasurer will enhance the financial governance and participate in the collective decision making within the organisation.
