Job description
We are currently seeking an interim SHE Manager, to work with our global FMCG client U/L, renowned for iconic brands such as Marmite, Pot Noodle, Colman's, and Hellmann's, to become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG food manufacturing environment.
The position is based at Burton upon Trent in Staffordshire, accessible by car and train. This is a full-time temporary role for 12 Months, requiring 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying between £50,000k - £55,000k per annum, depending upon experience.
The Location
We are searching for an exceptional candidate for the position of SHE Manager for our Burton-on-Trent factory in Staffordshire. Burton is U/L's Home of Iconic British Foods, manufacturing the well-known brands of Hellmann's, Colman's, Marmite and Bovril.
The Person
To be successful you will need strong, relevant experience in a manufacturing environment backed with a robust knowledge of UK Safety, Health and Environmental regulatory framework, management systems and best practice. You will need to be resilient, credible and authoritative, with the pragmatism and imagination to envision practical solutions to complex problems.
The Role
The SHE Manager will have overall responsibility for defining, leading and implementing the SHE strategy for the site, including:
- Providing competent advice to the Factory Director, Leadership Team and others, ensuring their roles and responsibilities are defined and understood, providing advice and guidance where required
- Advocate and provide a voice for SHE in the leadership team to help ensure balanced prioritisation alongside all other business requirements.
- Own, maintain and develop the site SHE Plan to drive continual improvement
- Fulfil the role of Site Security Leader, including local management of the 3rd party security service provider
- Work with the Factory Director to ensure effective governance including through the Central Safety Health and Environmental Committee (CSHEC), and specialist subcommittees
- Lead the deployment of the U/L Manufacturing System (UMS) for Safety, and for Environment and Sustainability
- Work closely with other leaders, particularly the Engineering Manager, and Operations Manager, to ensure alignment on SHE responsibilities and delivery in their areas of responsibility
- Ensure there is an effective process for evaluating compliance with legal requirements, and U/L standards. Prioritise, deploy and monitor action plans to close any gaps identified
- Ensure any risks to physical health are identified through risk assessment and occupational exposure monitoring, and work with HR and occupational medical teams to ensure an effective process for health surveillance
- Ensure that effective processes are in place for reporting and investigating SHE incidents, and that corrective actions are implemented. Lead investigation teams where appropriate. Analyse and report KPI and trends.
- Represent the site with Regulators, and with U/L Nutrition category, Country and Regional SHE forums.
- Ensure that routine and non-routine internal and external reports are timely and accurate
Essential
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
Manufacturing experience
Knowledge of UK regulatory framework
Desirable
Environmental qualification
Experience of working with regulatory agencies (e.g. HSE, EA)
Experience of managing compliance with Environmental Permits
Knowledge of safety culture, wellbeing and psychology
Experience of working within a World Class Manufacturing or Lean Manufacturing framework
