Job description
This post is for a Junior Clinical Fellow in General Paediatrics. This is a 12 month fixed term post with the possibility of extension. This post is based at Queen Mary’s – St Helier Hospital. The appointee will however work closely with colleagues on all sites, indeed the Trust expects all staff to be committed to cross-site working.
During the post you will obtain experience primarily in General Paediatrics including working in a dedicated Paediatric Emergency department, Paediatric Day Care Unit and Outpatient work.
• To develop robust General Paediatric skills.
• To become proficient in the management of common acute paediatric conditions in addition to sick infants.
• To develop independent decision making abilities by constant attention to evidence based practice and teaching from senior colleagues.
• To understand the pathophysiological basis of paediatric disease.
• To develop skills in follow-up management of paediatric patients.
• To attain/renew general paediatric resuscitation skill and qualifications.
• To undertake at least one high quality audit project.
• To develop organization and teaching skills.
• To see and manage a variety of General Paediatrics problems throughout the programme in a busy department.
• Exposure to a large number of sick children.
• To support Registrar and Consultant led ward rounds, ensuring paperwork is up to date.
• To participate in the weekly Registrar journal club..
• Every 6 weeks there is a Trust Wide Clinical Governance and Audit half-day with opportunities for joint working i.e. Paediatrics and Child Psychiatry/Obstetrics. You will be expected to undertake at least one audit project.
