About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Project Delivery, with demonstratable experience in the software development industry to run the Digital Division’s delivery of software projects. Through 2024 and beyond we are forecasting significant growth and an expansion of our activity in creating, installing and operating products for our customers. Our product and client portfolio is growing in volume and complexity over a relatively short period and this role is fundamental to ensuring we establish mature practices and approaches to delivering projects, creating sustainable products and enduring customer relations.
This role will have line management responsibility for all Project Management staff and will lead the planning and delivery across the Division, working with the Line Managers across the technical domains to plan for (identify, source and develop) the required capacity & capability to deliver current and future project needs. Where required, you may also act as a Project Manager on a temporary basis.
The Head of Project Delivery plays a critical leadership role within the Digital Division, providing leadership and direction to the Project Management group as well as supporting peers the Senior Management and Software Development teams.
Project Management approach
- Leading a culture of action, delivery and transparency
- Defining, implementing and maintaining the set of processes & tools used across software project management that complement the Agile delivery approach adopted across the Digital Division
- Establishing ways of working and project governance to ensure consistent, concise and clear presentation of information across the digital project portfolio
- Creating a community of practice, driving continual improvement and positive outcomes
Project Portfolio Oversight
- Taking overall responsibility for ensuring that the defined reporting structure is used by Project Managers to inform stakeholders of project performance, escalations and decisions required in a timely and accurate fashion
- Securing project budget funding in collaboration with Project Managers
- Leading the provision of accurate financial reporting of project budgets and forecasting
- Critically assessing the overall performance of projects to time, budget and scope
Line Management
- Building and maintaining Project Management capacity and capability plans
- Recruitment of suitable Software Project Management resources in line with capacity plans
- Providing oversight of project activity to the Senior Management Team to enable them to maintain capacity plans
- Acting as an advocate of the organisation, cascading information and ensuring objectives are clearly communicated and promoted within the Project Management team
- Leading, mentoring and supporting the Project Management team to ensure they meet project and organisational objectives
- Individual development of Project Managers including identifying training needs, motivation & welfare
Work/Life Balance
- Hybrid working – minimum 1 day in the office each week (and a maximum of 3)

- 3 additional days used for shutdown periods (usually over the Christmas/New Year period)

This role could be based in Derby, Milton Keynes, or London.
