Salary: £30,000pa to £34,000pa
Pilgrim Foodservice Ltd is looking for an additional Transport Supervisor to join our ever-expanding Transport Department! If you have great communication skills, people skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are ever the same, then we have the job for you! Being a Supervisor means you are responsible for looking after our team of incredibly hardworking drivers. You will be required to organise and support the team to ensure that they can perform safely and efficiently. You will also be responsible for providing them with training and coaching so the team has the appropriate skills to meet the company’s high customer service standards. Creating a sense of purpose for your team will come easy to you and ensuring that the company’s rules and procedures are followed. You’ll confidently implement and initiate performance management when needed and overall will naturally lead your team to uphold Pilgrim Foodservice’s values of Trust, Respect, Innovation and Integrity.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Assist in forward plans for labour requirements that reflect anticipated Transport activity and ensure adequate driver cover at all times
- Manage absenteeism across the driver team to ensure that core operating procedures are properly supported
- Authorise holidays, ensuring fairness in allocation and amend & authorise weekly hours on TMS
- Engage in regular communication with the drivers (individually and collectively) to promote company standards and to foster a ‘sense of team’ – driving efficiency and effectiveness within the department
- Conduct probationary reviews and investigation/disciplinary hearings where required
- Be involved in the recruitment and training process for new staff within the department
- Foster a spirit of continuous improvement within the Transport team – encourage the team to identify issues that impact service level and involve them in developing effective solutions to address them. Provide training where necessary
- Monitor individual driver performance and provide positive/constructive feedback. Use performance management procedures to address any persistent issue with an individual driver performance
- Ensure an effective handover is conducted internally within the department and externally with other relevant Supervisors/Managers before the start of each shift
- Sign off Daily Vehicle Check sheets and act on any issues mentioned
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained suitably to a clean and safe standard
- Ensure all relevant servicing and calibration tasks are completed as per manufacture’s and BRC requirements
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Communication – good written and verbal communication essential
- Confident in working with IT systems for warehouse & Transport management activities
- Holder of valid Driving licence for use in the UK and has access to own transport
- LGV cat C, CPC card and Digital Tachograph card (Desirable)
- Relevant experience in an Transport environment. Frozen and chilled experience an advantage
- Experience in working with: food products, food safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g. BRC)
- Good general education to GCSE level or higher, with passes in Maths and English
- NVQ or higher in operations, logistics or warehousing an advantage
- Able to work flexible hours to meet the requirements of the role
- Confident manner and personable when dealing with drivers and customers both in person and on the phone
- Leads by example and regarded as part of the team whilst commanding respect by the team
