Overall Purpose:
The Commercial Contracts Officer is responsible for ensuring the effective monitoring of commercial contracts with employers and other teaching and learning providers.
The Job holder will be expected to respond quickly and effectively to the opportunity to bid for tenders,
It is envisaged that the incumbent will work closely with the Commercial Contracts Manager to ensure that the bids are developed on time and accurately, and that the stakeholders have all been involved in the development process.
Working closely with the Deputy Deans will also be a requirement.
The job needs that management information and reporting on the contracts is in place, and that Senior Managers can have visibility of the contracts or their renewals when needed.
The post holder will be expected to ensure that this is accessible and feasible, and that the contracts are available on a University system. Regular reporting and accurate administration will be a key function of this role.
The role will require external and internal liaison and communication and collaboration. This will include working with University Registry, internal and (where required) external legal advisers, Finance, Quality, Academic Partnership, Marketing and Communications teams as well as Faculties. It will also include working with employers and other main providers and/or sub-contracted providers and/or apprentice assessment organisations.
Principal Duties:
• Accurate and timely production of management information reports.
• Outstanding administration of contracts.
• Establish and manage an internal digital record system for the collation and storage of commercial contracts
• To co-create the contracts and bids with the Commercial Contracts Manager- as required.
• To be responsible for the development of certain contracts- as agreed with the Manager.
• Ensure that all contracts are developed in accordance with the agreed commercial business case.
• Ensure that issues and risks are mitigated as soon as possible and that they are reported accordingly to the Manager.
• Help in the preparation and completion of management information and monitoring reports to the Director of Apprenticeships and the CCO.
• Ensuring that communication between University Service Areas and Faculties, employers and external organisations is ongoing and utilised to maintain an environment of continuous improvement.
• Ensure that the Middlesex values are supported.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
• A Bachelor’s degree in an area related to Contract Law, Project or Business Management
• Experience of contract, project or business management
• Experience of working with multiple internal and external departments to deliver agreed contract management outcomes
• Understanding of the higher and further education sector in England and/or the UK
• Have a systematic knowledge of contract management approaches and an understanding of the principles of contract law
• Sound knowledge of tendering, procurement and due diligence procedures in public and/or private commercial contexts
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to create solutions in highly regulated contexts
• The ability to use a variety of relevant computer applications and IT systems effectively
• Highly effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to adapt to the requirements of a variety of audiences
• Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
• The ability to be innovative, proactive and able to take initiative to enhance effectiveness and quality or to address identified issues
• Have good judgement and decision-making skills
• Demonstrable commitment to fairness and the principles of equality and inclusion
Desirable:
• Relevant experience of coordinating and/or managing apprenticeship and skills provision.
• Experience of working in the higher and/or further education sector
• Understanding of the regulatory, funding, reporting and quality assurance requirements for apprenticeships and skills provision.
Fixed Term Contract
This temporary appointment is for the following allowable reason:
• To cover parental leave
The exact date of termination of this contract will depend on the date of the substantive postholder’s return to work.
Therefore, this appointment has a defined end date of 6 Months or when the substantive job-holder returns to the job, whichever is soonest.
