Job description
An extremely interesting AI startup in Edinburgh is looking for their first Front End Engineer. After receiving significant investment from their MVP, they’re now looking to rapidly scale up and as part of that, are looking for a specialist Front End Software Engineer.
The company have a highly qualified founding team already in place and are now looking to build a team in areas they don’t have expertise, with one of these roles being a Front End Engineer. They’re already at the point where they’ve introduced their technology into a couple of companies and it’s been a massive success, so interest in the product is gathering momentum and to cope with that, they need to build out the team quickly.
What will I be doing?

As they introduce their technology into different businesses, initially, your role will be to build custom UI’s. As you’ll be the first Front End Engineer within the business, you’ll have ownership on Front End technologies and architecture, so they’re looking someone that has a decent amount of commercial experience behind them.
Who am I?
They’re ideally looking for someone that has a fast-paced start-up environment before as this is what it’ll be like once you’re in the role. As a minimum, they need someone that has experience of building User Interfaces from scratch or someone that has been heavily involved in the re-development of a User Interface.
In terms of technology, they’re not looking for an out-and-out React Developer or Angular Developer as such, they’re looking for someone that is just a really solid Front End Engineer that has ideally worked with a range of modern technologies. As the first Front End Engineer, you’ll have a lot of say with regards to what technologies to use, so it should be an intriguing role for the right person. Any experience of working closely with Designers or knowledge of UX & UI principles would be a big bonus too.
As the company operate within the world of AI & data, anyone that has exposure to this or an interest, would be very suited.
Who will I be working with?
As mentioned, they have a highly qualified founding team at the moment and have already made a few external hires, with a lot more growth planned over the next few months. You’ll work closely with the Software Engineers as well as the rest of the team who are more focused on machine learning, algorithms and AI.

They have a pretty flexible budget for the role and care more about getting the right person for the team. Their office is walking distance from Haymarket train station and are expecting someone to be in the office most of the week. They can also offer share options to someone after probation which will be discussed at interview stage.
