Housing Lawyer

Location: Abbey House, Abingdon although we work in a truly flexible, and hybrid way
Contract Type : Fixed term contract 18 months
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary and grade: £48,530- £54,064 Grade 7 (wef 01/04/24)

We are looking for an enthusiastic local government housing lawyer.

Our in-house Legal team is instrumental in providing legal advice and support to all departments across South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council. We are looking to recruit experienced legal professionals to join our expanding, friendly Legal team, to help support the future growth and direction of this busy service.

You will provide advice and guidance on general housing and landlord and tenant legislation including regulatory requirements. The role will include representing the councils in housing related litigation including evictions, homelessness disputes, and affordable housing initiatives to help us deliver duties as a Registered Provider.
You will need experience of housing matters and related property work such as leases and rental agreements, the ability to handle complex work with minimum supervision, up to date knowledge of housing law and be a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive. Experience of working in a local authority would be an advantage.

This is a new post designed to assist the burgeoning and successful work of the Housing team in respect of new and existing property holdings and the complexities of housing applications, providing legal support on matters of housing and property management and associated litigation to colleagues.
