About the School The Board of Governors of Hope School are looking to recruit to a part time classroom teacher. This is a tremendous opportunity for either a specialist or main stream teacher with a proven record in school for supporting children with behaviour that can be challenging. Hope School is a special school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH). Pupils range from aged 5 - 11 years. Hope School is unique because of its non-exclusion policy and the fact that we will never exclude a child from school. Hope School has adopted strong attachment and trauma-informed practices (ATP) as the basis for working with its pupils, alongside links to the HEARTs project and research-based support. The school has built a formidable reputation and is recognised as being a Centre of Excellence both locally and nationally and the aim is for this team to follow on from this and continue to grow. Pupils tell us they enjoy coming to school. We offer a creative based curriculum which meets the holistic needs of individual students. We know that our pupils work best when they are challenged in their learning and the curriculum is based around this.
We work closely with parents and carers of children in the school, each are given the opportunity to access training on attachment and trauma. Hope School successfully maintained being an outstanding school on 2nd April 2019. Additional CPD for staff also underpins this ethos whether it is CBT, yoga or mindfulness to name a few.
About the Role The Governing Body of Hope School wish to appoint a highly committed, motivated and professional teacher to join our team. The post is to start as soon as possible or September 2024. As an attachment-friendly community you will need to be able to establish a warm and welcoming classroom environment that follows an attachment friendly approach, treating each child as an individual and ensuring all can meet their potential. To follow an approach that looks at both emotional and academic needs, assisting children to develop emotional security, self-belief and mature social skills and assist all children to develop a love of learning and an excitement about coming to school each day.
Personal Qualities The post holder must, at all times, carry out his or her duties and responsibilities in accordance with the aims of the School and in such a manner as to enhance the good reputation of the School.
We are seeking to appoint a teacher who:
• is an exceptional classroom practitioner
• excellent communication skills, with students, staff, parents and external agencies
• committed to the development of every child within an inclusive environment
• effective use of pastoral skills to support the needs of a range of pupils
• can work as a flexible member of a team
• able to organise and work independently and manage resources effectively
• interested in or have experience of working with children with SEMH
• is supportive of a non-exclusion policy
