Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for one of our Dietetic Assistants to apply for a Full Time Dietetic Apprentice Post.
The post holder will be employed for the period of the apprenticeship within East Sussex Health Care trust (ESHT) and will undertake study at University of Teeside. A successful interview onto the BSc University of Teeside apprenticeship will also be required for the commencement of the apprenticeship.
This is a developmental role. You will work towards successful completion of a degree in Dietetics and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an AHP Dietitian. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Dietitian within ESHT and through completion of the Dietetic training programme at the University of Teeside. This will include working in acute, outpatient and community care settings and delivering direct person-centred care. When not at university you will work within the service as a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner.

The apprentice Dietetic programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. As an apprentice Dietitian you will be part of a friendly, supportive, professional team, and will be fully supported to develop your professional skills. You will be based, as an employee, within East Sussex Healthcare Trust working in hospital, community and clinical settings in order that you gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts to enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc Dietetic programme.
You will be required to work in our acute hospital sites as well as our community clinics in the wider community health services. Car driver is therefore essential. Your work will involve working collaboratively within the Nutrition and Dietetics team as well as liaising with other AHP, Nursing and medical colleagues as well as GPs and carers / relatives.
Towards the end of the apprenticeship you will be supported (subject to you meeting our behaviour standards, performance expectations and your apprenticeship), to apply for permanent vacancies within the Trust.

The academic part of the training will be provided by an accredited university where you will undertake modules as which include core areas necessary for professional dietetic practice: professional practice, structure and function, health and well being, nutritional biochemistry, human nutrition, public health nutrition, food science and systems, genetics, microbiology and immunology, nutrition and dietetics practice, pharmacology for practice, employability, leadership and quality.
The post holder will be delegated a wider range of tasks to assist the team in day to day clinical and administration tasks:
1. To assist the dietitian in the treatment of clients as required
2. To continue the treatment of clients as delegated by the dietitian, working without direct supervision at times, reporting back to the dietitian.
3. To assist the dietitian with challenging clients or those with complex needs who require more than one person to treat.
4. Develops and manages and maintain positive and appropriate relationship with service users and families and carers. Demonstrating respect, kindness and empathy at all times.
5. Core knowledge of clinical technical and or scientific roles and responsibilities including clinical risk assessment
6. Instruct clients and carers, providing direction and guidance on a range of dietitian interventions independently where directed by a dietitian.
