Working Hours: 40 hours per week 4 days on 4 days off
Salary: £27,217.67
Serco’s Environmental Services provide a complete waste, recycling, and street cleansing service on behalf of the residents and community of Windsor & Maidenhead.
With a professional, dedicated, and friendly team, our environmental staff ensure that our streets, homes, and businesses are kept clean, safe and tidy, whilst providing the very best levels of customer service to the community that we serve.
Right now, we have an opportunity for a like-minded Plant Operative to join our team of essential workers and help us to make a positive difference to the environment we all live in.
This role will see you take responsibility for safe and proper handling, transferring and disposal of recyclable and waste materials brought into the site by waste carriers.
As part of this you’ll:
- To assist in the operation of the tipping hall as described in the working plan.
- Ensure day to day maintenance of machines is performed to include greasing, cleaning, and monitoring.
- To carry out daily inspections on plant machines and record defects.
- To assist waste carriers in directions and disposal areas for waste.
- To undertake weighbridge duties as and when required.
- To maintain the cleanliness of the site by means of sweeping and litter picking.
- Maintain quality standards in accordance ISO specification, and as required by your line Manager.
- Ensure the safe use, operation, storage of plant and associated machinery.
- To assist in other areas of the Plant, Civic Amenity site and Municipal operation as and when required.

What you'll need to do the role
Previous experience operating plant machinery preferably within the waste industry.
You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as be self-motivated with the willingness to undertake further training when required and work well within a team. Experience working with public is desirable.
You’ll be following the site operating procedure, so knowledge and experience of the following is desirable; Standards of work performance, Quality Assurance (QA) BS EN ISO 9001:2, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 requirements, Health and Safety regulations and the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) provisions.
