Job description
Bangor University is seeking to appoint a Research Officer to its Centre for Health Economics and Medicines Evaluation (CHEME). Applications are invited from post-doctoral researchers with an existing track record of research, to join the Pharmaceutical Economics, Policy and Prescribing Research (PEPPER) group within CHEME.
This post offers an excellent opportunity for career development and progression, with the successful candidate gaining experience in methodological and applied research in health economic evaluation. The post will focus on the economics of mRNA and siRNA technologies for the management of Crohn’s disease, as part of the Horizon Europe/UKRI-funded GENEGUT project (https://genegut.eu/).
Applications are welcome from candidates with a PhD (or MSc and applicable research experience) in health economics or a related discipline. The candidate will have good inter-personal skills, be adept at working within project teams, and have an enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research. CHEME is one of the UK’s leading health economics research unit, with a portfolio of research projects in the areas of pharmaceutical economics and policy, economic evaluation alongside clinical trials, and methodological research.
The 2021 Research Excellence Framework indicated that 95% of our research is internationally-excellent or world-leading, and placed us 9th out of 89 institutions in terms of 3* and 4* outputs. The successful candidate to start as soon as possible for a 3-year, fixed-term period. *An extension beyond this will be dependent on research funding being awarded to the post holder and the research centre.

Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

In collaboration with a number of international partners, the post-holder will contribute to the planning, conduct, analysis and reporting of economic analyses as part of the GENEGUT project. This will involve data retrieval, an expert elicitation exercise, a model-based economic evaluation; determination of value-based prices; and revenue / budget impact analysis.
• Conducting electronic and library-based literature searches according to systematic review methodology.
• Preparing Health Economic Analysis Plans.
• Develop and implement methods for data gathering, coding, entry, analysis and interpretation.
• Applying relevant qualitative, mixed-methods and quantitative methods and techniques.
• Contributing to Work-package and General Assembly meetings, and liaising with other researchers working on research projects.
• Presentation at relevant conferences.
• Lead, and co-author papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Undertake administrative tasks associated with projects.
• Other duties, as required for the purposes of successful completion of projects.
• The post-holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Qualifications/Training
Essential :
• A PhD in Health Economics or other relevant quantitative subject (awarded or expected to be awarded soon)
Desirable :
• An MSc in health economics or other relevant quantitative subject.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential :
• Experience of conducting economic evaluations, including modelling using statistical analysis software such as STATA or R.
• Track record of conference presentations, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Desirable :
• Experience of developing grant applications as a lead applicant or co-applicant.
• Experience of conducting expert elicitation studies.
Skills/Abilities
Essential :
• Demonstrate good analytical skills, ability to analyse numerical data and present results appropriately.
• Demonstrate good verbal and written skills, and good attention to detail.
• Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team and to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary context.
Desirable :
• Demonstrate proven project management skills

· Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly in English, conveying ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing to a diverse audience
• A willingness to travel to attend conferences, training and project meetings
