Key Result Areas: Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the audiological care of patients allocated to them. For every patient contact the post holder will comply with the Trusts Infection Control Procedures to minimise the risk of cross infection with particular reference to the handling, cleaning and disinfection of ear canal impressions, earmoulds and equipment. To provide excellent service to clients, outlining options in a family-friendly, supportive atmosphere, working empathetically with the client to overcome fears and anxieties about solutions to their communication difficulties. Plan and organise own workload on an ongoing basis to ensure all relevant tasks are completed within appropriate/allocated timescales. Responsible for the creation of entries to the clients record held in Auditbase, the departmental electronic patient record (Auditbase and Lorenzo), recording full information relating to test results, discussions with client, hearing aid programming details, stock issued etc. in line with departmental protocols and procedures. Undertake a full range of audiological procedures in line with national and departmental protocols and procedures but working safely outside the procedure when clinically necessary. Paediatric Audiology Clinics are held at Woodloes Audiology Suite (In Warwick) Nuneaton and Rugby. The post holder will work autonomously and where necessary alone to provide Hearing Assessments, Hearing Aid Fittings, Hearing Aid Reassessments, Follow ups and Hearing Aid Repairs for children. Ability to work under pressure choosing the most appropriate diagnostic tests to enable an accurate diagnosis to be made for children. Discussing diagnostic results with paediatrics/families informing them about their hearing loss in an empathetic manner to motivate them to make informed choices about rehabilitation options to assist with their communication difficulties. Recognise conditions that require medical treatment and refer to medical practitioner as necessary. Provide instruction to clients to enable them to respond appropriately to routine hearing tests Provide instruction to clients on fitting, maintaining and using their earmould(s) and hearing aid(s) Undertake assessments/rehabilitation within patients homes if necessary Take impressions of clients ears for children. To assist in the performance of more advanced test procedures including: Paediatric/Lead in the full range of paediatric testing on all ages of children both acute setting and community setting. Objective test procedures including Real Ear Measurements including RECD and REAR, Diagnostic OAE, Tympanometry and Speech Audiometry Fitting, modification and evaluation of hearing aid systems on children Ability to place a REM tube in an older child or a babys ear canal safely Ensure that all clinical equipment is handled with care particularly when being transported between clinics. Measurable Result Areas Produce reports on Audiometric differential diagnosis. Read new referrals, accepting those that fit departmental criteria and redirecting those that do not to appropriate alternative departments such as ENT. Assist in the future development within the Paediatric Audiology services that enable greater access to services for patients. Contribute to enhancing key working relationships for Health, Education and Childrens Hearing Services Working Group Responsibility to research and development: from audits to undertaking research and development programmes on a regular basis in order to promote and improve the service. Provide practical training for students/junior staff on an ongoing basis completing assessment sheets as necessary. Communications and Working Relationships To recognise the importance of personal contribution to the team and the wider professional network. To inform and liaise with senior colleagues on all aspects of Audiology and administration related to your role. To establish a working rapport with other team members and to contribute to team meetings. The post holder is required to work as part of a team. Assigned workloads identify booked appointments, however it is essential to review colleagues workloads and assist when possible in order to maximise capacity and efficiency. Ensure departmental and/or national policies and procedures are updated in your audiology and to be pro-active in suggesting improvements for the service as a whole.
