BIA Data Insights Executive

Remuneration: £28,750 per annum.

Reporting to: Head of Content

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The BioIndustry Association (BIA) is the UK’s Trade Association for biotechnology and innovative life sciences. We work with incredible entrepreneurs, scientists, business leaders, regulators, policymakers and advisors in a fascinating, vital and booming sector which spans global connections and the entire life sciences ecosystem in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role for the BIA in shaping the narrative and understanding of the UK biotech landscape. You will collect, curate, and analyse data to produce valuable insights that inform work across the organisation, from policy to business development.

The Data Insights Executive will contribute to the production of impactful reports on the sector, provide facts and statistics for member communications, and collect data as required to inform strategic decisions as we grow our membership and influence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead data-driven research and insight for the BIA: Analyse a range of complex datasets to identify trends, insights, and key findings relevant to the biotech industry.
• Craft impactful reports and presentations: Draft regular reports on industry trends and member data, contribute to collaborative reports, and create compelling narratives and data visualisation.
• Data management and sourcing: Lead the data procurement and collection process, manage relationships with external data providers, and contribute to the development of BIA membership systems for enhanced data analysis and member insight.
• Collaboration and communication: Work closely with all internal stakeholders and external partners to develop new ideas for innovative and impactful sector insight, ensure data accuracy and relevance, and communicate complex findings clearly to diverse audiences.
• Stay ahead of the curve: Continuously monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and market dynamics to enhance the value of your work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

• Degree or equivalent.
• Ideally, a minimum of two years of experience in comparable roles, which may include part-time or internship positions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft PowerPoint, high-level proficiency in Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to visualise data effectively with experience of data visualisation tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Organised, with good time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• Project management, problem-solving, organisation, attention to detail, positive attitude, curious mind, willingness to learn and work flexibly, ability to work across teams.

Desirable:

• Previous work experience in life sciences.
• Degree in life sciences, data science or equivalent.
• Experience using sector databases such as Pitchbook and Beauhurst for analysis purposes.
• Experience of CRM databases, ideally MS Dynamics.
