Job description
We are looking for a forward–thinking Systems Engineer with a passion for safety and a drive to make a difference. This role involves integration of fuel cell power systems (both fuel cell stacks and balance of plant), conducting risk assessments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety measures, and verifying compliance with industry standards and regulations. Also participating in the development of safety guidelines, conducting thorough analysis of potential hazards, and proposes solutions to mitigate risks. Excellent technical, analytical and communication skills are crucial for success in this position.
Based at either our Midlands or South Coast facilities but also flexible to work at our other sites and at customer locations in the U.K. (for a pre–agreed period of time if the project requires it).
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Collaborate with cross–functional teams to design, develop, and integrate safety features into complex engineering systems.
- The successful candidate will support vehicle integration activities, related to electric and fuel cell powered vehicles, through all phases of the vehicle development process. In this case, hydrogen fuel cell stacks in an automotive environment.
- As such, the candidate will be involved at all steps of the system design V–cycle for requirements elicitation, analysis and decomposition following a top–down system design approach.
- Requirements capture and management, product definition, system and sub–system design and development, supplier identification, sourcing and management, build and commission prototypes & test and verification.
- Work closely with Design and Analysis teams to deliver a systems architecture to meet attribute targets for system and vehicle level safety requirements.
- Participate in the creation of safety guidelines, protocols, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and regulations throughout the system's lifecycle.
- Liaises with project team members of various departments, internal management, and directly with suppliers, test houses and clients.
- Presents results and recommendations to project team and customers.
- Understands and works within project financial targets, time schedules and manages and prioritises all tasks required. Communicates issues to Project Manager and Principal Engineer as they arise and assists in developing responses to those issues.
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline (System, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, etc).
- Minimum 3–5 years of related experience
- Knowledge of BEV and FCEV architecture
- Strong knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and risk assessment methodologies is preferred but not essential.
- Proficient with a CAD system to view, manoeuvre, cut sections, measure dimensions, etc. is a plus
- Proficient in BOM management
- Knowledge of systems requirements software preferred
- Experienced in engineering documentation, FMEA, DVP&R, etc.
- Strong problem solving, analytical and experience of fault–finding techniques used in the Automotive industry a plus
- Strong ability to apply fundamental engineering principles
- Initiative and interpersonal skills are essential, as are strong communication and presentation skill
