Temporary PT Housing Reviewing Officer Reference no: Dorset 5243938 Pay rate: £15.31 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 15 Monday – Friday, 08:30-17:15 This opening assignment is for 2 months City: DORCHESTER, Dorset Worked days can discussed and some presence in the office may be required Basic DBS required for this role A PT Housing Reviewing Officer is required to carry out statutory reviews under the Housing Act 1996, Parts VI and VII, under the supervision of the Service Managers for Housing Solutions Manager and Homelessness, Prevention and Housing Advice Manager. To carry out review requests on housing allocations and homelessness decisions ensuring all decision are consistent with the council’s legal responsibilities towards residents and be responsible for the co-ordination of complaints, MP and Councillor enquiries. To respond to freedom of information requests and to support the development of service improvements. Worked days can discussed and some presence in the office may be required.
Key responsibilities:
- Carry out statutory reviews under the Housing Act 1996, Parts VI & VII. To understand the statutory requirements of the s202 Review and s204 Appeal processes, to ensure that the Council complies with these requirements on every case which is reviewed.
- Draft complex review decision letters ensuring they comply with law, good practice and the need to communicate complicated legal concepts to homeless applicants in plain, accurate English.
- Provide reports and statistics about the review function and decision making of the Housing teams and provide training as appropriate.
- Be the first point of contact and co-ordinate Freedom of Information requests reporting to the Corporate FOI Officer within set deadlines.
- Be the first point of contact for MP enquiries and complaints, ensuring all enquiries are recorded, forwarded to the relevant manager and responses kept centrally.
- Assist the Service Manager for Housing Strategy and Performance to review the service by identifying and making recommendations regarding changes or improvements to practices.
- Coordinate each complaint including ombudsman, MP and Councillor enquiries and pass to the relevant housing service manager or the corporate director as appropriate.
