At YHN, our vision is to be ‘First for Housing’. We have bold plans for the future and our people are key to us achieving our goals, so we want to attract the very best.
We manage more than 26,000 homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council and provide a huge range of support services to our customers. From benefits and money advice to providing a repairs and maintenance service and supporting customers with their tenancies, we strive to make living easier.
We offer a forward thinking and open environment where our people are empowered to make a difference, coupled with competitive salaries and a wide range of benefits. These benefits include flexible working, generous annual leave allowance, local government pension scheme and access to extensive learning and development opportunities plus regular support from your manager.
The Role:
This is an exciting time to join our Support & Progression Young Persons Services as we implement new ways of working to enable a psychologically informed approach to service delivery and re-model our Young Persons Services.
You will provide line management to a team of Support Workers who support young people who might be experiencing multiple difficulties and who are at risk of homelessness. This includes providing access to accommodation in one of our Young Persons Accommodation projects wherein the team offers practical and psycho-social support to help young people. This is done by ensuring that customers are safe and have skills to be able live independently to help them move on into their own tenancy. You will provide case work support and reflective supervision to help ensure that safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation and policies are followed and that where necessary a multi-agency approach is taken.
The Person:
You will be an effective leader with extensive experience of delivering support services to vulnerable customers that are psychologically informed. You need to be able motivate staff to deliver excellent, customer focused services. You will be the kind of person who looks for continual opportunities to deliver improvements and create innovative services. You will show emotional intelligence in dealing with the needs of customers and your staff. Passionate about working with vulnerable customers to improve their lives. Have good IT skills and be diplomatic, assertive and credible and able to work collaboratively with a wide range of groups to achieve best practice outcomes for customers. Ability to deal with conflict effectively and bring problems to a satisfactory conclusion.
Work flexibly across the City, including carrying out home visits.
At YHN we are committed to being a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) that prioritises its relationships with customers and invests in staff learning and development. We are in the process of rolling out a comprehensive workforce development plan in partnership with Aneemo a national leader in PIE and trauma informed practice with more than 350 frontline staff and managers being enrolled. PIE provides a framework for us to all use that determines our language and approach when communicating and engaging with customers, building on the good practice that already exists within our housing and support services.
