Our Client is one of the Yorkshire regions leading independent M&E Design and Build Contractors, with a turnover of circa £50m, employing a team of building services specialists working across a wide range of sectors nationwide.

Established 45 years ago, the group focuses upon providing sustainable environmental solutions to the leisure, retail, commercial and hospitality industries amongst others, with a collective goal to provide the most energy efficient low carbon buildings. The business works alongside leading contractors and blue chip multi-national brands to deliver large scale projects on time, within budget and within a safe and controlled environment.

The role of M&E Design Manger is a new role within the company, extending the management team, supporting growth and adding key experience to the preconstruction division. The appointed candidate will need to be an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer, up to date with all the latest advancements in HVAC design and hold a strong commercial understanding of project costs. Working closely with the estimation and installation teams, the M&E Design Manager will be involved in key projects from inception to completion, providing a first class customer focused service and being part of a wider team to successfully deliver schemes to time and cost.

In addition to traditional heating, ventilation and air conditioning services, it is essential interested parties are highly familiar with pipework arrangements, air source heat pumps and BMS systems – which play a key part in current design and build projects. Additional skills/experience include:

• Assess client issued drawings and review for design, structural, architectural and cost plan production.
• Ensure design programme key dates and targets are met.
• Produce concept system layout sketches for CAD processing considering space requirements-ordination with other mechanical/electrical systems and other trades.
• Assist the Project managers/ Project Engineers and site teams to resolve technical and engineering problems on site.
• Assist the Project Managers/Project engineer to interpret the project requirements from the documentation, costings, technical design, and tender narrative.
• Assist the Commercial/Estimating department to determine the project technical requirements from the tender documentation received.
• Site surveys and site inspections.
• Highlight instances where potential non compliances could occur and add to the risk register.
• Development/updating of design procedures/documentation.

It is anticipated that some travel will be required, visiting sites and meeting clients when appropriate, with a design team in London to support also.

The regional office is located conveniently just of the M62 where West and North Yorkshire geographically meet, offering a realistic regular commute from Leeds, Wakefield, Castleford, Doncaster, Selby and York.
