Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Unconventional Differing Projects
Our client is a Civil, Structural, Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering consultancy who work on a range of projects through infrastructure, commercial, industrial, bespoke residential and nearshore. Some Specifics include mining, luxury homes, quay's and small island developments, extensions and slipways.
Position Summary:
As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing technical leadership and professional expertise. Your responsibilities will include leading and supporting the delivery of geotechnical engineering design works across various projects. You will work on a range of tasks, including designing and detailing works such as soil nails, rock anchors, sheet piles, foundations, temporary works, earth retention systems, and excavation support systems. Additionally, you'll be involved in ground improvement schemes, interpreting ground investigations, identifying risks, and providing technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and assist in geotechnical engineering design works.
- Develop and detail designs, including soil nails, rock anchors, sheet piles, foundations, and more.
- Interpret ground investigations and provide technical solutions to mitigate identified risks.
- Prepare and review technical reports, including Desk Studies, Interpretative and Design reports.
- Ensure compliance with current design codes and regulations, including Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Oversee project and site works adherence to H&S requirements and industry standards.
- Collaborate with other departments to deliver cross-disciplinary projects.
- Travel to and attend sites for surveys, inspections, monitoring, and meetings.
- Work with industry partners, including Architects, Contractors, Local Authorities, and Engineers.
Requirements (candidates do not need to match all points):
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering with geotechnical modules (MEng/BEng/BSc).
- Chartered status with an accredited body (preferable but not essential for experienced candidates).
- 4+ years of relevant experience in a geo-structural design environment.
- Significant geotechnical design experience, including writing Geotechnical Design Reports and Earth Works Specifications.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCad, Masterseries, SCIA Engineer, WALLAP, QGIS, Civils 3D.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, leading projects or supporting others.
- High standards, attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Competence in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to stay updated on industry innovations.
- Full driving license.
