Job Title: Children’s Support Worker / Personal assistant
Hours: 7 hours every 2 weeks on a Saturday or Sunday, to be agreed mutually in advance.
2 or 3 days a week during half term, days may vary but will be agreed mutually in advance.
Rates of Pay: £12.50 per hour
Work Area / Location : Old Colwyn, Conwy
About the Job: The purpose of this role is to provide support to a 16 year old young boy who is Autistic, with developmental delay. You will be required to accompany him, at the same time that his brother is accompanied by his own PA. We are looking for some who has some proven experience of supporting young children with a disability and autism, please demonstrate this on your application.
Responsible to: The child’s parents
Main Tasks:
To provide encouragement & support in relation to interests & hobbies, such as indoor play areas. Encourage to access and explore new and suitable activities
Communication is via gestures rather than language, so it is essential that you have patience and excellent observation skills, to ensure needs are met.
To accompany when using public transport, for which a bus pass will be provided. On occasions his brother’s PA will take responsibility for driving to places of interest
To prepare light snacks as required, giving due regard to food hygiene & specific dietary requirements. Fluid intake Is aided by a gasostomey, for which some assistance may be required
To provide support with changing clothing when required.
To support with the maintenance of personal hygiene, to assist with toileting
To encourage physical and emotional development & feelings of social inclusion.
To carry a mobile phone at all times. This must be kept charged and in credit at all times.
To ensure that due consideration is given to Health & Safety at all times.
To attempt to maintain a clean and tidy environment whilst at home.
Person Specification:
The successful applicant should:
Have some proven experience of supporting young children with a disability and autism, please demonstrate this on your application.
Establish a professional standard of care which should be maintained at all times.
Undertake this role with due regard to all physical, social, educational & recreational needs.
Respect & safeguard all goods & property.
Respect the privacy of your employer & uphold confidentiality at all times.
Be punctual, reliable & flexible.
