Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people mostaffected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. Today, in over 60 communities we work withadults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools andfurther education, among others.

These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living;inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. SAMH is dedicated to mental health andwellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless ofpresent or past circumstances.

About the Role

SAMH Redhall is a mental health recovery project based in a walled garden in South-West Edinburgh. We have awonderful location in a wooded dell by the Water of Leith and indoor and outdoor facilities includingpolytunnels, vegetable beds, ornamental gardens, orchard, kitchen, library and training room.

The Instructor Team at Redhall provide a supportive environment to learn and practice skills in horticulture. Theservice has structured days and encourages people to build routine, be more active, spend time outdoors and workalongside others. Our Peer Worker and Employability Practitioner offer additional support for people to bettermanage their mental health, develop confidence and progress their goals.

The garden is open to the public during the week and also plays host to local partner projects who might arrangetheir own activities in the grounds. We also organise open days to sell plants, promote the service and raiseawareness.

The Team Leader will be responsible for the day to day delivery of effective social and therapeutic horticultureactivities at SAMH Redhall, creating a positive and purposeful environment for staff, service users and widercommunity.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a track record of managing the delivery of programmes in health, greenspace and/orcommunity settings. You will have the skills to undertake all aspects of managing the project day to day fromthe ground up - overseeing site/garden maintenance, developing programmes, managing staff and ensuring qualityof support.

You have an understanding of partnership working and can identify and develop opportunities for joint working,coordinate and communicate with colleagues across the third sector and make reports to funders as required.

You have leadership experience and can confidently bring a team together with a strong sense of purpose andcommitment to SAMH values. You are someone who wants to work with people with the ability to build rapport, showgenuine interest in their recovery and handle difficult conversations with compassion. You will be enthusiasticabout the benefits of gardening and nature-based approaches to support mental health and coming to work in agarden everyday will be a perk of the job for you too!

We are looking for a unique individual to manage Alzheimer Scotland’s ‘Connect 2’ Befriending service inEdinburgh.

The Volunteer Co-ordinator is responsible for the recruitment, selection, induction and ongoing support to our teamof much valued Volunteers. Managing referrals and carrying out assessments to best meet the needs of peopleliving with dementia.

The key role of the Volunteer Co-ordinator is to identify suitable ‘matches’ for befriending relationships which willprovide companionship to people living with dementia.

Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia. You will also have good communication skills and acaring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ’s) is essential. Relevantqualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

The National Training Manager works with people across Scotland to ensure that as many people as possible get theknowledge and tools they need to address mental health this includes staff within the organisation andexternally to other audiences.

We look beyond illness by taking a holistic approachthat ensures no one has to face mental ill health alone.They work closely with the Fundraising, Operations, andServices teamsto develop, quality assure, manage, and deliver Mental Health courses across Scotland.Deliveringto a diverse audience; including staff and as part of our income generation portfolio.

The National Training Manager will continuously evaluate, review, and update materials to ensure that the coursesremain consistent relevant, up-to-date and evidence based to ensure the highest quality and best practice in allthat we deliver.

They build and maintain connections with other learning providers and stakeholders to call on specific expertise asneeded, and to ensure we complement and add value to other available training. This includes workingcollaboratively with Mental Health UK training provided to schools through the Bloom and Your ResilienceProgrammes.

Who are we looking for:

We are looking for an individual with previous experience of developing and delivering training to a variety ofaudiences adn someone who is comfortable cultivating positive working relationships.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Quality and Improvement to support the internal trainingneeds of the organisation and so some previous experience of quality assurance is desirable.
