Job Description
.1 Provision of legal advice, support and assistance to the Adult, Children and Education Services Department and Members of the Council.
2 To undertake all working practices and procedures for the efficient and effective working of the Team.
3 To assist with cases in all Courts, Tribunals etc, and to appear personally on the Council’s behalf as appropriate in cases in civil and criminal Courts and before Tribunals and Inquiries.
4 Supervised provision of briefings and information on developments in the law relating to the general role and government law.
5 To attend and advise at such meetings as required, including Panel Meetings and any working parties and officer groups as a representative of the Team.
6 To provide regular and timely training to Officers and Teams within Adult and Education Services on current and proposed changes in the law and procedure relating to all aspects of role.
7 To provide legal comments for reports to Cabinet and other Committees and attend as the Legal Services Officer at meetings of Cabinet and other Committees as required.
8 To undertake any other duties as so directed by the Principal Lawyer that are commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.
Person Specification
To have attained a degree (or equivalent), AND to have been either admitted as a Solicitor or a Barrister or a Legal Executive in England and Wales or Common Law jurisdiction.
Experience in the last 2 years of dealing with Court of Protection, Community Care Law.
Experience in dealing with Education and Children Act 1989 (desired)
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to explain and present issues in a clear, structured, objective and personable manner.
To listen to all the needs and demands of any person with whom there is contact in the course of the duties of the post and to devise ways of finding solutions to issues which may arise.

Knowledge of current Local Government law, Adult Social Care and Child Care Law
