Job description

Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (EYFS/KS1/KS2) position required for September 2024 . Full or Part-Time applications considered.  

Primary age range – we would welcome applications from teachers with either EYFS or Primary (KS1/2) experience.

Salary: MPS + Inner London Allowance + 1 SEN point

UPS and/or TLR considered dependent on the skills and experience of the applicant

Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children, North London

We are an exciting, innovative and successful provision for deaf children aged 3 - 16. The Primary school is co-located with Highgate Primary School and the Secondary school is co-located with Fortismere School, Muswell Hill. We offer the best of both worlds through quality inclusion and small class specialist teaching. We are looking for an excellent EYFS/Primary practitioner to join our skilled team of deaf and hearing staff with a commitment to a child centred, sign bilingual approach.

The school is on a journey to ‘Outstanding’ following a ‘Good’ Ofsted (February 2023).

“Pupils enjoy coming to this special school. They feel safe and they are happy. All pupils learn British Sign Language (BSL) as well as English. Communication threads through everything at the school. BSL is a vital and vibrant aspect of school life. Pupils and adults communicate throughout the day with humour and warmth.” (Ofsted 2023).

The successful candidate will:

A Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (ToD) qualification is desirable but not essential.  However, the successful applicant would be supported to undergo training in due course to gain this mandatory qualification if they did not already hold it. This would be funded by the school.   Experience across the primary age range is desirable as is experience of teaching children with SEND.  Additional support and training will be given as required.
