Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Chair of the Finance, Risk, Audit, Policy & Performance (FRAPP) Committee.

The Chair of FRAPP will also be appointed as Trustee on the Board of BACP.

What will you be doing?

The FRAPP Committee holds delegated authority from the Board for overseeing the Association’s financial procedures and performance; reviewing the financial strategy of the Association; reviewing investment policy and performance; ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations; reviewing income and expenditure as well as budget performance.

The Committee ensures activities are carried out effectively; consider the appointment of the internal and external auditor; maintain relationships with the auditors; discuss problems and reservations arising from audits; reviews the reserves policy and ensures appropriate insurance policies exist.

The Chair of FRAPP is expected to:

• become a trustee on the Board of BACP;
• have a clear understanding of the committee’s duties and responsibilities;
• be able to commit the necessary time (which will vary depending on the size, complexity and circumstances of the business);
• be readily available on urgent matters and in times of crisis;
• have the requisite business, financial, communication, and leadership skills.

General responsibilities include:

• To Chair the Committee meetings as stated in the Committee’s Terms of Reference;
• To ensure the Committee and its members fulfil their delegated responsibilities;
• To prepare and submit a quarterly report to the Board of Governors;
• To prepare and present the annual report and financial statements to the Association’s Annual General Meeting;
• To review the membership and effectiveness of the Committee.

What are we looking for?

The FRAPP Chair will have:

• An understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Trustee;
• Strategic vision and experienced in the development of strategy and monitoring performance;

• Good understanding of the principles and practice of good corporate governance
• Experience of chairing a significant committee but reporting to the Chair of a main Board. Experience of being a Chair and managing committee members;
• Professional financial/accounting experience and sound financial acumen;
• Experience in financial strategy, budget setting and monitoring;
• An understanding of audits and how they inform strategic and operational management;
• Experience of risk management;
• A willingness to devote time and effort;
• Good, independent judgement and an ability to think creatively;
• An understanding of the responsibilities of their position;
• IT literate: to be able and willing to use technology on Association business.
• Knowledge and experience of the third sector advantageous but not essential.

As the Chair of FRAPP, you will create and manage effective working relationships among the Committee, leadership team and the auditors. Given the responsibilities of FRAPP, you will have the opportunity to contribute in a substantive way to the governance of BACP.
