Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to support in the development and establishment of robust Pea Transformation protocols at the John Innes Centre, and to support in on-going Brassica transformation and gene-editing work within the Crop Transformation Platform.
The Crop Transformation Group is a Technology Platform at the John Innes Centre, supporting internal and external research groups with access to GM and gene editing protocols and resources.
The post holder will join the Crop Transformation Group at the John Innes Centre, working with Dr Penny Hundleby. The pea protein market is expanding, and this has driven increased interest in research and breeding in this area. The ability to gene-edit pea is our goal. This will support both legume researchers gain a better understanding of what genes control what traits but will also support in bringing new varieties to market, with increased nutritional and sustainability properties.
You will have a BSc or equivalent in a biological science. You will have in-depth knowledge of molecular biology techniques including QPCR and demonstrable experience in tissue culture. It is advantageous if the successful candidate has experience of working with brassica and/or pea.
