Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Optometry

SBU/Department: School of Life and Medical Sciences, Department of Clinical Pharmaceutical and Biological Science

FTE: 1.0 FTE (Working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Salary: UH7 Lecturer £37,099 pa to £44,263 pa dependent on skills and experience and UH8 Senior Lecturer £44,263 pa to £56,021 pa dependent on skills and experience

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year.

Main duties and responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of Optometry, across foundation year, undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes. They will contribute to the design and delivery of learning and teaching materials (including examinations). The post holder will co-ordinate and support the development of modules in degree programmes and undertake the role of module lead.

For appointments at Senior Lecturer the post holder will contribute to research and/or consultancy and/or other scholarly activity in a relevant field. They will contribute to the development of research objectives, project, proposals and external income generation/third stream funding and contribute to the development of ideas for disseminating and applying results of research and evidence-based practice.

Skills and experience required

Applicants must have experience of working in optometric practice (primary or secondary care). Relevant teaching and research experience, including contributing to successful research grant awards and/or publications are desirable.

For the role of Senior Lecturer , you will have Proven recent and relevant post qualification practical experience e.g. experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with the ability to use appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods.

Qualifications required

The post holder will be a GOC registered optometrist, and hold a first degree in Optometry, Vision Science or related discipline and a postgraduate degree or equivalent or professional qualification in a relevant discipline. For the role of Senior Lecturer, a doctorate degree would be desirable.
