Job description

The Sussex Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Leaders Alliance (SVLA) connects the VCSE across Sussex and with health and care partners, including NHS Sussex and Local Authorities, encouraging conversations to inform strategic planning, development and delivery of services, acting as a catalyst for change. 

Chair

Time Commitment: 4 days a month  

Remunerated: £600 per day

Term: March 2025 (continuation subject to ongoing funding)
Sussex area

This is a new and exciting leadership opportunity in the VCSE sector to develop the VCSE’s strategic role as a partner in the integrated care system to reduce health inequalities and improve population health for people living in Sussex.  

The role calls for an independent leader who upholds and exemplifies the principles of collaborative, inclusive and generous leadership to build and develop the direction and work of SVLA and to rapidly embed the sectors’ role in the developing health and care structures in Sussex.   

The Chair will have a good understanding of the VCSE in Sussex and will hold key relationships with senior VCSE leaders representing the diversity and scale of the sector across Sussex, with NHS Sussex executive and senior leaders and equivalent roles within Local Authorities to embed the VCSE as an equal strategic partner across the Sussex health and care system.  

The successful candidate will bring extensive executive experience as a Chair or in a leadership role and have a strong understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by the Sussex VCSE sector and partners. You will need to be a strategic thinker, who can work though complexity, apply reasoned and creative solutions, with good judgement and risk management. Critical to the success of this role is a commitment to compassionate, collaborative and inclusive leadership practices and a leader who lives by the values of openness and integrity with an ability to create the culture where this thrives.
