Job description
A groundbreaking start-up working on novel DNA/RNA sequencing technology is recruiting a Bioinformatics Scientist (Data Integration) to join its team based in Edinburgh on a permanent basis. The company has just closed out their pre-series A funding round and is investing heavily in all areas of its team as it looks to release its product for clinical studies.
You will be responsible for NextFlow Workflow development – developing, designing and optimising Nextflow-based workflows for analysing long-read transcriptomic data.
This role will be suitable for a highly qualified PhD candidate who can also bring relevant work experience gained in either an academic or industry setting – covering Nextflow Workflow development.
Bioinformatics Scientist (Data Integration) responsibilities
Nextflow Workflow Development: Design, develop, and optimize Nextflow-based workflows for analysing long-read transcriptomic data, covering pre-processing, alignment, isoform identification, and quantification.
Long-Read Transcriptomics Analysis: Conduct comprehensive analysis and interpretation of long-read RNA sequencing data, focusing on characterising complex isoforms and alternative splicing events.
Tool Integration & Customization: Integrate long-read specific tools into Nextflow pipelines, and if needed, customise or develop scripts for tailored analysis of long-read transcriptomics.
Performance Optimization: Ensure Nextflow workflows are optimised for handling the unique characteristics and computational demands of long-read data, aiming for scalability and efficiency.
Documentation & Reproducibility: Document workflows, methodologies, and parameters used, ensuring reproducibility and sharing of analysis processes.
Bioinformatician requirements
High level degree qualification (ideally PhD) in bioinformatics or closely related.
Long-Read Transcriptomics Proficiency: Extensive experience in analysing long-read RNA sequencing data, encompassing preprocessing, alignment, isoform characterisation, and quantification.
Nextflow Proficiency: Strong command over Nextflow, designing and implementing workflows for bioinformatics analysis.
Programming Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, R, etc.) for bioinformatics data processing and analysis, specifically tailored for long-read transcriptomics.
Tool Integration: Experience in integrating and utilizing long-read specific tools within Nextflow workflows.
Experience in implementing pipelines in AWS
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate looking to join a fast-growing start-up, working on novel technology that will transform the industry. £Comp + company benefits.
