R&D Scientist (12 Month FTC)

Job description
Role Purpose
- The Novacyt Group is looking for an enthusiastic and talented Staff Scientist for an opportunity to join the R&D department within a fast-growing and friendly biotech business.
- We are experts in the development, manufacture, and distribution of high-quality diagnostic products – including gold standard molecular assays and a growing portfolio of rapid immunoassays, for the detection of toxins, bacteria, viral antigens and key indicator proteins. We have customers in many different industries including academia, research, diagnostics, food industry and the veterinary industry selling to over 100 countries worldwide.
Key Accountabilities
Main duties and responsibilities
- Responsibility to deliver discrete work packages within projects and independently drive project progress
- Independent RUO and diagnostic assay optimisation, verification, and validation
- Planning and conducting experiments; recording and analysing data independently
- Presenting results to senior/other research staff
- Conducting demonstrations of procedures to internal and external personnel
- Writing investigation plans, reports, reviews, and summaries
- Organising products & material evaluation studies
- Ensuring that quality standards are met
- Liaising with research and/or production staff to facilitate technology transfers and problem solving
- Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments
- Directed learning (eg reading up on specific subject for the purposes of a project)
- Other duties and responsibilities
- Verify data in both digital and written form, ensuring that any errors that may occur during transcription are eliminated
- Ensure lab cleanliness and safety by maintaining equipment and technician attire, and keeping all samples properly labelled and stored
- Handle necessary administrative paperwork and other documentation needed for project validation and research quality control
- Conducting Non-conformance investigations and root cause analysis
- Writing and reviewing SOPs and Quality Protocols
- Assist other researchers with various tasks, including sample care and storage, research, analysis and presentation preparation
Qualifications and experience
Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- 1 years’ experience in industry
- Previous qPCR knowledge and hands-on experience, including problem solving
- Ability to plan experiments, problem solve and progress projects independently
- Flexible and adaptive to changing work environment
- Experience handling Hazard Group 2 organisms in a Containment level 2 Laboratory
Desired:
- MSc in a related field
- Experience of working within a quality system, particularly ISO 13485.
- Previous statistical data analysis experience would be beneficial
- Previous experience in scientific product development or creating complex study designs desired
