Job description

The Rainbow Project is seeking to recruit a Cancer Champions Manager to join our leadership team. This is an exciting new service in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. Interviews will take place on Friday 12th of April 2024 in our Belfast Office.

Job Title:              Cancer Champions Manager

Contract:              3 Year Full Time Post (probation period 6 months)

Location:              Belfast/Foyle

 

Principal Role

The Cancer Champions Manager will provide day-2-day management and leadership for the Rainbow Project’s new, MacMillan funded, Cancer Champions service as a member of our leadership team. The pioneering Cancer Champions Service seeks to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ people across Northern Ireland who have been impacted by cancer. The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing this pioneering new service, managing a team of six and creating important baseline research. As a Macmillan funded professional and as part of the Rainbow Project team, the post holder will foster partnership working, ensuring that the service users voice and needs are at the heart of service delivery activity, in line with both organisation’s vision.

Key responsibilities

To innovate in both the development and delivery of this new service to ensure the maximum impact for the LGBTQIA+ community, their families and friends who have been impacted by cancer.

Oversee the Cancer Champions service performance, ensuring outcomes are met while evaluating overall effectiveness and maintain a record and ensure Rainbow Project and Macmillan reporting requirements are met.

Provide management and support to a team of three Support Officers; a Volunteer Coordinator; a Project Administrator; and Cancer Champions volunteers in various aspects of the LGBT Cancer Champions program, including training, community development, and advocacy.

Manage service budgets and resources effectively to ensure the successful implementation of program activities and the achievement of program goals and objectives. Working closely with the Deputy Director and Finance Manager.

Work alongside the Policy, Campaigns and Communications Manager to develop research on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people who have been impacted by cancer across Northern Ireland.

Engage with a range of acute medical and cancer services to improve the availability and provision of accessible and inclusive services for LGBTQIA+ people in Northern Ireland.

Work with the Fundraising Officer to seek out funding opportunities for extension of this service, in line with agreed organisational priorities.

Ensure that stakeholders and service users are aware that they are interacting with a Macmillan professional

Promote the full range of Macmillan resources and services

Actively engage with Macmillan Cancer Support to contribute expertise and experience and to support the Macmillan Strategy

Demands

The Rainbow Project addresses issues that can be viewed as political and/or controversial. The post holder will need to handle all issues astutely and diplomatically, and with party political impartiality.

The post holder will represent the Rainbow Project professionally and effectively to external stakeholders at both a local and national level. This includes with the HSC/NHS, private healthcare providers and individuals impacted by cancer.

The post holder will be expected to handle a varied workload, this may include some evening and weekend work.

In this Northern Ireland role, the post holder will undertake regular travel between Rainbow Project’s offices and to other locations as required.

The post holder will undertake any other tasks that may be requested, commensurate with the nature and level of the post.

General responsibilities

To work collaboratively as part of the Rainbow Project leadership team to develop and achieve shared goals and objectives.

To contribute to the general administration, good running and development of the Rainbow Project, while adhering to safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, equality and other organisational policies.

Monitor your own continuing professional development and identify training, growth and development opportunities.

To maintain good relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and other stakeholders, while also upholding high standards of professional accountability.
