Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Full time. Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need).

Salary: Starting at £45,585 to £54,395 per annum, pro rata if part time

Contract Type : Permanent

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sussex Projects Team at the University of Sussex.

As Project Portfolio Manager, you will be an integral part in the planning and delivery of our exciting Capital Programme to deliver the University’s strategic ambitions.

You will find yourself primarily working within the Axelos® suite of project management methodologies.

Your main responsibilities:

• Provide professional project portfolio management support to key stakeholders in support of the relevant aspects of the University’s strategic plans, taking ownership of the overall integrity and coherence of the portfolio.
• Contribute significantly to the annual capital planning cycle through to approval of the delivery plan.
• Actively support and assure the effective delivery of the project portfolio, effectively managing interdependencies and overarching risks and issues and achieving value for money for the University.
• Build and improve excellent portfolio, programme, and project management capability and practice for the portfolio.
• Provide leadership, coaching and guidance to the Portfolio team, fostering meaningful and supportive relationships across the organisation.
• Develop and maintain a Portfolio level benefits realisation plan. Monitor and support the maximisation of benefits realisation at portfolio level.

About you

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate a great level of experience delivering complex projects and programmes to time, budget and customer satisfaction. You will have an in depth understanding and proven track record of enhancing and applying project management methodology and best practice. You will enjoy sharing your experience with others in the team to develop professional excellence.

You will count stakeholder management as one of your strengths, presenting confidently and adapting your communication style to your audience. In situations of potential conflict you will seek win-win situations with the best for the institution in mind.

About our Division

Established in 2021, Sussex Projects is a fairly new function that exists within the University with a mission to:

• Act as a central enterprise function for the selection, prioritisation and control of all projects and programmes in line with the University’s strategic objectives and capacity to deliver.
• Establish and implement project management best practices for the benefit of the University in a way that encourages collaboration, standardisation, and overall improvement in project results across all strategic portfolios.
• Headed up by the Director of Strategic Projects and Change, the division provides control and oversight over our ambitious capital programme, a multi-million-pound 10 year transformation, delivering complex change across our four institutional portfolios ITS, Estates, Research, Education and Students.
