Job description

As the Lead Biospecimen Coordinator: The post holder will assist with leading on projects within the laboratory setting, working bench side on a weekly basis, with careful and consistent logging of all analysis steps, and leading projects independently where appropriate. The post holder will be responsible for the collection and processing of clinical samples (tissue and blood) from multiple units and sites across Royal Marsden and Institute of Cancer Research. The post holder will be expected to ensure all samples required are received in-house in a timely fashion and for those samples required urgently to coordinate staff to travel off site for retrieval of relevant material ensuring integrity of a sample in their care is maintained. The post holder will have management and oversight of the collection of archival and new tissue samples, processing and labelling samples, managing the collection and storage of samples in the appropriate conditions (fridges/freezers/liquid nitrogen). The post holder will be responsible for tracking patient samples through the tissue bank and confirmation of receipt upon dispatch, keeping accurate logs and audits. The post holder will be required to interpret pathology and clinical data to identify appropriate samples for inclusion in the bank.
