We are in search of Project Officer to contribute to our ambitious program of projects at Saltram, funded by the NHLF and the National Trust. You will play a key role in developing projects to achieve the our vision. Saltram is an historic estate Plymothians take pride in – linking the city and its communities with history, nature and greenspace and Over the next decade we are working to support well-being through connection with heritage and nature; open up more free-to-use parkland for people; create habitats for wildlife; restore the historic landscape and views; improve visitor infrastructure; and offer better access and connections to Saltram for local communities. As a key member of the project team you will help Saltram deliver the next chapter in Saltram’s history, making everyone welcome and connecting our visitors with heritage and nature.

You will be part of the Saltram Project Team and part of a wider SW consultancy team. You will collaborate with a diverse team and experience a dynamic and passionate work environment. The Future Saltram program aims to shape the next chapter in Saltram’s history, enhancing accessibility, connecting people with heritage and nature, and securing its position as a cherished place for generations.
You will play a pivotal role in managing the development of projects, ensuring alignment with approved purposes set by the funder. Leading small and medium projects (up to 25k in value) or parts of larger complex projects, you’ll operate within a matrix management framework, fostering a collaborative mindset.
What you’ll be doing
Your responsibilities include supporting and evolving a pipeline of projects for submission to the NLHF, such as capital projects targeting the removal of Saltram’s Amphitheatre from the Heritage at Risk register, repurposing the stables, improving access around the house, garden, and stables, reinstating the Great Terrace, and introducing new garden facilities.
In collaboration with a team of specialists, including the Senior Building Surveyor, Grants specialist, Community and Participation lead, and Project Curator, you’ll contribute to making a compelling case for investment in the wider program. Working within the National Trust Project management framework and with external funders, you’ll support the Future Saltram Project Manager in project development.

Understanding and upholding National Trust values are essential, along with a passion for stakeholder and community engagement, as well as expertise in fundraising and financial management.
