Job description

Axcis Education are looking for a teaching assistant to work in a mainstream primary school in Southport. This is a full-time position, working 8.30am - 3.30pm, Monday to Friday until the end of the academic year. There is potential for a permanent position for the right applicant. The role involves working 1-1 with a KS2 autistic pupil with epilepsy. The pupil is working below age related expectations and requires additional support in the classroom to bring them back up to speed. There are some sensory needs but no challenging behaviour.

This position is based in a mid-sized primary school in Southport. The school was rated as ‘good’ in its most recent OFSTED inspection with praise given to the strength of the leadership team and the pride staff feel working there. There are good facilities onsite including a car park for those driving. There are good public transport links within a 5-minute walk of the school.

Requirements:
• Level 2 or above Teaching Assistant qualification (if you do not have this qualification, Axcis can enrol you on training to complete)
• An enhanced DBS, covering working with children, on the update service (if you do not have one, Axcis can help you apply for a new one)
• References covering the past 12 months – a minimum of two references is required
• Previous experience working with children in some form (ideally in a school setting)
• Previous experience with the SEND needs listed above
The ideal candidate will be a friendly, proactive and caring individual, who is able to form a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil in order to bring them up to age related expectations.
