The employer is: GLEN COMMUNITY PARENT AND YOUTH GROUP.
The day-to-day tasks of the youth support worker will include working directly with young people, including carers and young people at risk of offending. The successful candidates will design and run projects alongside professional youth staff that focus on issues like health, bullying, crime or drugs. They will design and organise activity programmes for young people. Work with social workers, professional youth workers, teachers, and probation officers. The overall recording system for this information will be through google docs, in which all the successful candidates will be giving training and demonstrations on how they operate. Throughout this period, we hope to develop the successful young people’s thinking skills, IT skills support the successful young people in their personal, social educational and professional development to help them reach their full potential as youth workers..
Responsibilities
- Work directly with young people to develop their social skills by offering a varied programme of activities, information and leisure provision.
- Prepare sessions beforehand to be delivered in the targeted outreach provision.
- Contribute to team meetings to enhance and develop the curriculum offered.
- Consult with young people and their communities about their needs, and deliver a positive diversion from anti-social behaviour.
- Work in partnership with schools and other educational providers to assist with young people's training and personal development.
- To ensure that all relevant policies are adhered to, including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Child Protection.
- Ensure that all reports required are submitted on time, and follow required guidelines, for management of information as set out by Youth Service.
- Be an advocate for young people within the community.
- In addition and in discussion with the Principal Youth Officer undertake any reasonable other duty within the Youth Service.
- Work directly with young people in an individual and group capacity to develop their personal, social and health development by assessing need and providing a programme of activities, experiences and services designed to meet those expressed needs.
- To establish contact with, befriend, advise and support young people.
Promote and encourage new sports development programmes and participation among children and young people in line with organisational policies, guidelines and procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Willingness to work flexibly.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally with a wide range of people.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of designing and delivering sports/youth development programmes in a community setting.
- Evidence of good communication skills, i.e. ability to record information accurately in writing.
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with children, young people and their families.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to use ICT packages in recording, evaluating and managing information.
- Knowledge and experience of implementing an effective child protection policy to meet the requirements of Child Protection legislation.
Further Information
The Employer is: Glen Community Parent and Youth group.
Salary: 16/17 £5.28, 18/20 £7.49, 21/22 £10.18, 23/24 £10.42 per hour.
Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
